OK, this is not a food blog (only) but there seems to be a theme so far, anyway. I’m sure I’ll post something other than a recipe at some point!
When I posted my veggie stock and risotto recipes, a friend from the past mentioned that he still used my “famous” (among me) chocolate pie recipe, which I used to make in the dorm kitchen in college. And then a few more people asked about it, so here it is!
I got this recipe from a girlfriend’s mother during our brief courtship. She called it “Mississippi Mud Pie” so I do too, even though it has no ice cream (not that ice cream wouldn’t be good alongside!). It’s simple and basic and quite impressively rich, chocolate-y, and delicious:
Mississippi Mud Pie |
- A graham cracker crust
- 3 oz unsweetened chocolate
- 1 stick of butter
- 3 eggs, beaten until frothy
- 1 T vanilla
- 1 c sugar
- 3 T Karo syrup
- Preheat oven to 350.
- Make graham cracker crust.
- Melt together the chocolate and butter over low heat.
- Meanwhile, mix together the remaining ingredients, then mix chocolate mixture into egg mixture until well combined.
- Pour into a graham cracker crust, bake in 350 oven until top starts to crack, about 45 minutes
I’m afraid I don’t have a picture of the pie – although with the cracks it looks less delicious than it really is! Most people will find they can only eat a small piece of this pie at a time, because it’s so rich. (This was never a problem for me.)
Let me know if you try it – I’d love to hear what you think.
I’m going to be making this pie for Thanksgiving, so can post a pic when it’s done.
It's in the oven!
Thank you for using the printable recipe card thing. Makes it easier. Sorry I haven't been keeping up with your website, mon frere, I can see I am YEARS behind! Oops.
